Justice 39 was a joint commission by Revoluton Arts and Luton Borough Council, as part of the People, Power Passion programme of 2019 in Luton. We worked with young people across Luton on a sessional workshop basis to devise a new open air live show at St George’s Square. The live show used Mutiny’s trademark interdisciplinary method, combining theatre, music, dance, video, motion graphics and augmented reality.

The show took it’s name from the 39 Luton people who were tried and brought before judges following the Luton Riots in 1919. Writers Roy Williams, Atiha Sen Gupta and James McDermott worked with the young people to devise the script. New music was composed working with Sandy Nuttgens and the final show was co-directed by Suzann McLean.

Motion graphics and augmented reality components created an open air theatre, along with a huge banner mounted on the front of Luton Theatre and Library. A particular thank you to Ben Pugh who stage managed the final show, with care and meticulous detail.
